About Roughgate Paper Atelier
We exist to help people write kinder notes and build thoughtful ritual through paper-based design.
Our story
Roughgate Paper Atelier began as a studio for analog lettering and thoughtful gifting rituals. We refined a clean, clinical approach to visual decisions—so students can focus on the message, not guesswork. From small workshops, we grew into a course catalog serving learners in 40+ countries at roughgate.click.
Mission
To make greeting card creation reliable, repeatable, and joyful—powered by accessibility, sustainability, and clear critique norms.
Our method (unusual twist: The Clean Grid)
We teach with a “Clean Grid”: a simple 12-unit grid adapted to small cards. It stabilizes margins, line-length, and visual rhythm so your sentiment leads. We pair this with color ramps and type pairing tools that remove confusion while preserving personal voice.
- Layout scaffolds for common formats (A2, A6, square)
- Type pairing flows with legibility targets
- Material decision trees (eco vs. archival)
